Here's what YACHTS & YACHTING said about the TAZ
Smaller and lighter, nippier and more handy than a Topper or Pico which makes it more suitable in size for introducing children to sailing. In fact the TAZ has quite a racy hull shape with a flat rocked back end starting to taper at the daggerboard towards a fine bow. So the TAZ appears to cut upwind quickly, pointing high, tacking easily and accelerating with each gust. Sailing offwind on flat water, the TAZ stayed stable downwind and in gybes. The TAZ has plenty of room for two children in its cockpit and unlike the Optimist has a high boom that should stay clear of small heads. The Design Category CE Certificate for the TAZ recommends a maximum of two people or 150 kg (330 lb.), which in theory allows a suitably enthusiastic 100kg (220 lb.) Dad to sail with his child. How would the TAZ beat to windward against a strong spring ebb tide in a gusty wind? This scenario confronts many coastal sailors and the TAZ performed extremely well
